How to do stoppies (or nose wheelies) on a dirt bike︱Cross Training Enduro

http://crosstrainingenduro.com http://tractionerag.com How to do stoppies like Graham Jarvis. Stoppies (endos or nose wheelies) are an advanced enduro skill that might not be used too much but is a pile of fun. Learn how to ride dirt bikes using dirt bike techniques and enduro skills - just like the top dirt riders. Stoppies can be done on trials bikes, enduro bikes, road bikes, stunt bikes... not sure if the technique would change for road bikes so do your research for those sorts of stoppies. And read Traction eRag too.

Contrary to popular belief, stoppies do not impress women despite what you might read in Traction eRag. As your body comes forward, the front tyre patch spreads and gives great traction. The main point is timing your body weight moving up and forward as the suspension rebounds. And if you want to see them done well, go elsewhere. Remember this is the gumby school of average joes pretending to know what they are doing. Stand on the pegs, medium revs in first gear. Move your body to the rear as you weight the pegs to compress the suspension. As the suspension rebounds, apply the front brake firmly, straighten your legs rapidly and transfer your body weight forward. Apply the front brake firmly but don't grab the lever rapidly or the front wheel can lock up. If you do have a trials bike, it's way easier to learn on that first. Remember to take it easy and very slowly work your way up to bigger stoppies. Once the timing is right, stoppies become very easy. If you are having trouble even if your timing is right, there are a number of things that can help. A steeper slope means less effort to bring the rear wheel up. You can use a small obstacle like a log or rock to help lift that rear wheel up. As you get higher, remember to ease off the front brake if you think you are going over the bars. As we get higher, we like to use spotters who can quickly duck in and stop the rider going over the bars if they went too far. You can ride over a small drop off which makes stoppies much easier. You can do a small wheelie first which helps to compress the suspension. Unlike wheelies, there is a point of no return with stoppies so don't be in a rush to find that balancing point. It's best to start on a flat area with good traction, or a gentle downhill slope.
