Drain are also known as moth or sewer flies. A fine hair covers their bodies, which leaves a powdery residue when crushed. These flies are commonly found near drains, sump pits or in bathrooms.

The flies lay eggs in a mass of 30 to 100 at a time and hatch in less than 48 hours! Dirty garbage disposal units, water -“p” traps in plumbing fixtures, or other locations with organic material are prime areas for infestation.

Although the flies will generally be seen near an area of infestation, they may make their way to other locations in your residence or property.

What Causes Drain Flies?
Drain flies – or moth flies – tend to breed and live in drains. They live off organic matter in drain traps, buildup on the side of piping, or slim that accumulates on the surface of water. Moisture buildup need only be around for 7-10 days before these annoying pests make their home. They will appear roughly 30 days later.
