You can’t talk about Australian wine without talking about Shiraz.

So when we opened this Barossa Shiraz, expectations were leaning toward big, bold, and heavy — but what we found was something a little different.

In this episode of The Wined Up Podcast, we pour a limited release Aldi Blackstone Shiraz that still carries that classic Barossa identity — earthy, rustic, and full of character — but with a lighter, more modern touch that makes it surprisingly easy to drink.

It’s the kind of wine that works both ways. Something you could bring out when friends come over and feel quietly confident about… but also the bottle sitting next to the BBQ on a Friday night with steaks and sausages sizzling away.

What stood out most wasn’t just the flavour — it was how approachable it felt. Familiar, comforting, and very Australian without trying too hard.

And once again, the real question comes back to value… because sometimes the wines that create the best moments aren’t the expensive ones — just the right ones for the occasion.
