In today’s video I am looking at the three primary bodies of the Copic marker line. We are looking at the Original, the Sketch and the Ciao bodies. Each one has advantages and disadvantages. Let’s look at the facts of each marker style and some of the comments you hear regularly about each one.
The Original marker body is a square shape. It is the first marker body that the Too. Company manufactured. The Copic Original Marker is available in 214 colors and also can be purchased as an empty marker that can be filled with the other Copic colors or used to create your own unique ink combinations. It also has 9 different nib styles that can be interchanged in the two ends of the marker body. The Original Marker is refillable and one Various Ink Refill will refill an empty body about 9 times. The Original also fits snuggly into the ABS or Copic Air Brush System. The variety of nibs can be a big plus to this marker body as well as the fact that it holds the most ink, so you are refilling the marker less often. Even though you cannot purchase all 358 colors in this marker body you can use the Empty Markers to create a full collection of 358 colors.
The Sketch Marker is the most popular body in the Copic line and a favorite among crafters and card-makers. The Copic Sketch Marker comes in 358 colors and also comes in empty markers that can be used to create your own unique marker colors. It has an oval body that stays put on your work surface with no rolling. The Sketch Marker has 4 nib options that can be interchanged. The Sketch is refillable and one Various Ink can refill a Sketch marker about 12 times. Finally, the Sketch Marker also fits in the Copic ABS. Copic users love the fact that the Sketch comes in the full range of colors, they like the body shape and they also love the super brush nib that comes in the Sketch Marker.
The Ciao Marker body is a smaller, round bodied marker. The Ciao Marker comes in 180 of the Copic colors and does not have empty markers so it cannot be extended further. The marker comes with the super brush and medium broad nib like the Sketch Marker, and has 3 nib options. You can refill the Ciao Marker and one Various Ink Refill can refill a marker around 15 times. The lids are child safe allowing air through if they are accidentally swallowed. A couple of the draw backs of the Ciao is the round shape that can roll on your work surface and the caps that are not marked on the ends and have a separate inner ring. The big advantage is the cost! For someone just starting to look at using alcohol ink markers, the Ciao gives you the high quality of Copic ink and the impeccable construction of a Copic body wrapped up in a smaller price tag. It is a great place to start for someone exploring the possibility of starting a collection and once you are ready to expand your set, you can add on different colors in a different body style if you want.
All of the Copic Markers contain the same high-quality ink and if you purchase a color in one body, it will be the exact same color in the other bodies. All of the marker bodies have the color number embossed into its side. The Sketch and Classic are also embossed on both lids. The lids on all the markers are air tight and the markers are safe in both heat and cold. They can all be stored horizontally or vertically with no problems and all can be refilled with Copic Various Ink Refills. All of the marker nibs are replaceable.
We hope that this helps you see the variety of markers that Copic has to offer and the options you have when purchasing Copic Markers for your crafting, card-making, scrapbooking, mixed-media, or you name it artistic tool kit.
