Land of Swamps . . . Guess this country's name!
This country has two names. One name for its people, another for those outside. There are a lot of swamps in this country and so, many say that it is where its name has been taken. Interestingly in simple english, a fen is a marsh or swamp and this sound's like the name of this country as it is known internationally - fen land for swamp land! Others say that the name was derived from 'fish scales' or from a tribe known as Sami. Tacitus called the people of this land Fenni. In Latin, "fini" means end and so, Tacitus may have been thinking of this when he called the people Fenni as they live so far far away that it is almost at the end of the world. At any rate, don't get confused by a cacophony of many word ideas of the name origin of this land. Just have fun!
