Handling Tips For Retriever Trainers

So much of a retrievers success and performance in the field comes from the dog trainer. Knowing when and when not to step in plays a huge role and how you do it makes all the difference in the world whether it be in training time or on a hunt.

This week, Josh discusses body posture and whistle work. In your retriever training, you're not asking your labrador to do something, you're telling them to do it. If you want to train your retriever you have to show them you know what you're doing. Along these same lines is a handler's whistle work. Don't over do your volume when the situation doesn't call for it. Reserve the loudest for times when the dog needs it, not when it's nearby. Utilizing these tips will not only make you a better dog trainer/handler, but also your dog a better retriever.
