Lions Hunting Buffalo

When a huge male lion spots a young unsuspecting buffalo calf hanging out, next to a tree, he can’t believe his eyes, as he quietly approaches his target and delivers the final blow, killing the calf in an instant. The poor little calf must have wandered off, but being so young, I’m truly surprised there were no other adult buffaloes in the close vicinity. Male lions rarely hunt with the pride and only do so when bigger prey is involved like buffalos, giraffes, and sometimes young elephants. With their brute strength, they make the take-down look easy and save the pride a lot of trouble and potential injuries. This is one of the reasons why lionesses tolerate male lions within the pride. In this video, we can see an incredible display of teamwork and strength from the young breakaway pride led by its wise older female when they are able to bring down a huge 800kg beast. Hunting such prey is very dangerous, but the rewards are worth the risk.

Lion Hunting Zebra

Check out how this zebra almost escapes death and how the generous lionesses turn out to be warmly welcoming, as they let a hyena share in their delicious meal. I guess they are so hungry, that they no longer care what other animals are around, trying to get a piece of the spoils. When a lion attacks a herd of zebras, one of the zebras takes the rocky road and is slowed down because of the terrain, giving the lion an advantage and enough time to take the zebra down and make the kill. This lioness takes a 300-foot lead as it tackles this zebra down, causing it to summersault over the zebra and flip over on its back before falling to the ground. Once the zebra is captured, the other members of the pride assist in the preparation process. Meanwhile, the cubs play around as they wait for their dinner. This poor little zebra foal is frightened by a lioness in hot pursuit, but the fear quickly dissipates, after the feline kills the foal within seconds of latching on to it.
