Lewandowski: Eighteen Liturgical Psalms – Andor Izsák on Jewish Liturgical Music

Andor Izsák talks about how Louis Lewandowski's music affected his life, his musical career and the influence that history had on Jewish liturgical music. Lewandowski's Romantic style was influenced by Mendelssohn, whose family fostered his career. In 1879, his 18 Liturgical Psalms provocatively eschewed several long-established traditions in Jewish synagogue services and led to the creation of a new liturgy. Musicologist and conductor Andor Izsák is joined by the Hungarian Radio Choir for this world premiere. The first complete recording of this masterwork '18 Liturgical Psalms' was made possible with the generous support of the Hungarian Government and Hungarian Radio Art Groups.
