A 1939 Electrola disc of Lubka Kolessa playing the Hummel Rondo in E-Flat Major, the 'filler' side of the 5-disc 78rpm set of her recording of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.3.

Kolessa was a marvellous Ukrainian pianist who emigrated to Canada, where she would become primarily active as a teacher. Her handful of 78rpm disc recordings, as well as a few broadcast recordings, have become prized by collectors for their scintillating and profound pianism, but the sound quality has generally done little to fully demonstrate her capabilities.

This terrifically clear transfer of Hummel's Rondo in E-Flat Major captures the sparkle, rhythmic vitality, deft articulation, and transparency of Kolessa's playing with tremendous fidelity.
