A rarity in recognition of Youri Egorov's birth on May 28 back in 1954; he died aged 33 in 1988, which is now itself 33 years ago, which means he has been gone for as many years as he lived.

An April 8, 1987 concert performance of legendary Russian pianist Youri Egorov and the Glinka Quartet playing the Brahms Piano Quintet in F Minor Op.34.

This performance at the Concertgebouw Recital Hall was broadcast but never issued (another account of Egorov in this work a full decade earlier was recently released), and it is a very fine reading that shows Egorov's affinity both in chamber music and with Brahms.

Egorov and his colleagues play with wonderful ensemble, with remarkable dynamic control and cohesiveness on the part of all musicians - a richly textured and lyrical performance that eschews the bombast and weightiness that can be so common in interpretations of Brahms's music.

Zinnio Vinnikov, violin
Alexander Barntschik, violin
Rainer Moog, viola
Dmitri Ferschtman, cello
Youri Egorov, piano

There is a wonderful website dedicated to Egorov here - https://www.youri-egorov.info/ - which includes some fantastic publications, including a new discography that includes all known studio and live recordings (I've just received it and it's a fantastic reference)... a superb tribute to this phenomenal musician!
