Remembering Jeff Lloyd: "Ventura Highway" performed by Crystal Drive (live 1973)
Crystal Drive was a cover band based in Madeira Beach, Florida during the early 1970s. Their take of America’s “Ventura Highway” was recorded Thanksgiving 1973 and features the lead vocals and guitar of the late Jeff Lloyd. He was fond of the song for it’s near-mythic depiction of a coastal region in Southern California—which didn’t stop him for indulging his satiric wit by changing some of the lyrics. Personnel:
Chris Jones: keyboards & vocals
Lonnie "Butch" Ledford: bass & vocals
Jeff Lloyd: guitar & vocals
Mark Stock: drums & vocals
While Jeff Lloyd may be an obscure name in the mists of music industry lore, he was a mega-talented mentor and inspiration to a legion of musicians and creatives. As a recording artist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist, his career intersected with electronica, world music, pop, and all types of rock, and his passion was contagious! This video is part of an ongoing effort to express gratitude and pay tribute to Jeff, and I aim to post more media about him in days to come.
