Homeowner: cable company workers broke into yard
By EMILY BAUCUM News 4 San Antonio Facebook: Emily Baucum TV Twitter: @EmilyBaucum SAN ANTONIO - A homeowner thought robbers were breaking down her fence. Turns out, they were workers from a cable company. Now Karin Faucett wants answers: why did the workers show up unannounced, and why did they try to break into her yard? The north side homeowner was taking a relaxing dip in the pool Monday when she got the scare of her life. "I could see movement of people through my fence, Faucett says. She heard an unmistakable noise. "They were trying to break this lock, Faucett says. And then she panicked. "All of a sudden, the fence board split, Faucett says. All of a sudden, its like Jack Nicholson in The Shining. Thats when she got out of the pool and grabbed her gun. "If they had hit one more board through, I was firing. That was it, Faucett says. "So I yelled out and I said Hello. And they said, We're with ATT. We're here to bury your cable. And I said, You just broke my gate. You're breaking my gate." She says the workers didnt make an appointment or call ahead. "There's a thing called a telephone. I think ATT knows that, Faucett says. She reported the break-in to police but officers told her their hands are tied. "They said if I had done this at your house, it would have been a felony. But since ATT has a work order, it's just a misdemeanor, Faucett says. We asked ATT about the incident and if workers were disciplined. "Were looking into this situation and are working with our customer, an ATT spokesperson wrote in a statement. We will share more details when they become available and we apologized to the customer for the inconvenience." Faucett hopes the workers are held accountable. I could have shot them, she says. Faucetts taking matters into her own hands, now. Shes posting fliers around the neighborhood about her experience. She also hung a bed sheet on her fence with a public warning painted for neighbors: Beware ATT contractors breaking into your home."
