The Mystery of Miyakejima Volcano's Caldera Collapse; The Eruption was Seemingly Too Small
Within Japan is the volcanic island of Miyakejima which for a period of a decade required everyone who visited or lived on the island to carry a gas mask at all times. Yet, the cause of this predicament was an unusual caldera collapse that occurred during a 2000 volcanic eruption. This eruption was seemingly too small to have generated the caldera, meaning that its origin had another source.
