Spherical and aspherical lenses both have their respective pros and cons, as laid out in this video. Spherical lenses are, as the name explains, much more rounded, whereas aspherical lenses are much flatter. As prescriptions increase, aspherical lenses may become preferable over the spherical lenses that can cause unwanted magnifications (in plus lenses) and reductions (in minus lenses).
