Solitude and sunset on the Isle of Arran - And Meg returns to the hills 🐶

Fifteen weeks after Meg’s surgery she was doing one hour walks off the lead, so I thought it was time to take her for a relatively gentle hike. When we go to the Pirnmill hills on Arran we usually traverse all three summits and camp on Beinn Bharrain before dropping down to Pirnmill in the morning. But I didn’t want to push Meg and as my hill fitness had suffered over the winter, I decided a one hour hike from Thunderguy to Coire Fhionn Lochan and an overnight camp would be a good re-introduction to the hills.
On our way up to the corrie we passed a few people on their way down and I was surprised and pleased to find that we would have the whole place to ourselves for the night. Pitching the tent below the corrie headwall gave us an expansive view across the lochan and we enjoyed a superb sunset and a good night’s sleep.
The following morning dawned clear with no wind and after a leisurely breakfast I struck camp, and we wandered back down to Thunderguy to catch the bus to Brodick and the ferry home.
