Stephanie J. Block performs Scott Alan's 'Never Neverland (Fly Away)' at BWW's Standing Ovations

Backstory:

In 2004, I performed alongside Broadway's Shoshana Bean (Wicked; Hairspray) at a charity event in New York City. This was my very first concert in New York and I was accompanying Shoshana on my song, Home.

The other performers on the bill were the whose who of the industry, including Stephanie J. Block, who I had just seen as Liza Minnelli in The Boy From Oz opposite Hugh Jackman.

After the concert, I approached Stephanie and asked if we could work together. She agreed and a few days later we met at the Shetler studios to look over material. Originally she taken by my song 'Goodnight' and had asked for the sheet music in hopes to perform it at an upcoming concert being produced by the premiere theatre website, BroadwayWorld.com called 'Standing Ovations.'

As we were gearing up to leave, Stephanie asked if I had anything else with a little more tempo.

When I wrote Never Neverland (Fly Away) and played it for friends and family, everyone told me the song was one of my worst. But, for some reason I decided to play it for Stephanie and ... the rest is history.

The night of the concert, Stephanie and I had yet to of spoken so I was unaware if my song would even be presented. I still attended and was hopeful.

Stephanie was called to the stage and ...sang a different song. I was devastated. The venue, Joes Pub, was filled with theatre fans and Broadways greatest names and this would have been the ultimate opportunity for me to showcase my talent.

I sat back at the bar, drank a few margaritas (rocks and salt) and waited for the show to come to an end when ... host, Scott Nevins, re-introduced Stephanie to the stage ...

Though performing 'Home' with Shoshana was my first introduction the the world of the theatre, THIS performance was what introduced me as a writer to watch. The video remained on the front page of Broadwayworld.com for days and forever changed my life.

The video has been in hiding ever since but, the incredible Rob Diamond (owner of BroadwayWorld.com) gifted me with the video this morning and, with Stephanie's blessing, I share it with you today.

So, sit back ... and enjoy the VERY first performance of Never Neverland (Fly Away) when the world truly believed I was merely 12 years old.
