MAGA’s New Jim Crow? Black Voters Fight Back in Louisiana Map War. #trendingshorts

Black voters and civil rights groups are sounding the alarm in Louisiana after Republicans moved to redraw congressional districts following a major Supreme Court ruling tied to Louisiana v. Callais. Critics say the new maps could erase majority-Black districts and weaken Black voting power across the state.

Voting rights advocates, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and civil rights leaders are calling the redistricting push a modern-day “Jim Crow” tactic designed to dilute Black political influence ahead of the 2026 elections. Protesters packed hearings at the state Capitol while activists accused MAGA lawmakers of rushing maps through before voters could respond.

The controversy exploded after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Louisiana’s previous congressional map and weakened key protections under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. Legal experts warn the decision could trigger similar battles across Southern states like Alabama and Tennessee.

Governor Jeff Landry defended the fast-track redistricting process, while Black lawmakers and organizers argue the fight is about preserving representation for communities that have historically faced voter suppression.

Now Black voters are mobilizing with lawsuits, protests, and national pressure campaigns — saying they refuse to let decades of civil rights gains disappear without a fight.
