Finalist 2 of 2 in Henning Kraggerud's "December" Melody Lyrics competition":

Maarten Das with "December"

Maarten Das is a homework tutor, journalist and member of the Poet's Guild of Utrecht (Netherlands). He wrote the lyrics for two hymns in the Dutch Protestant hymnbook of 2013. More at www.maartendas.nl

Henning's "December" Melody Lyrics competition got more than 30 entries from many different countries and continents divided between entries to broadjam.com and decembersong2016@gmail.com

The texts were narrowed down to the six best for semi-finals. With advice from Jostein Gaarder and our team, it was narrowed down to the final two. Our two favourite entries were then recorded by Aksel Rykkvin (singing) together with Louisa Tuck (cello), Christian Hadland (piano) and Henning (violin).

Which text do you think is the best one for this melody: "Ol' December" by Deema Homsi or "December" by Maarten Das?

The sheet music in the new arrangement is available to download for free at www.henningkraggerud.com. It can be sung with piano, optional cello part, optional descant instrumental or vocal, or done as a piece for piano, violin and piano, Piano Trio or Piano Quartet. The song part with the two texts is also available.

When the competition was put out in November at broadjam.com and our facebook pages the actual competition texts at each site was worded a bit differently. Hence we have accepted texts under both criteria and concentrated on choosing the texts we think worked best with the melody.
