Huddersfield Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of West Yorkshire, around 15 miles southwest of Leeds, is the town of Huddersfield.

Situated close the Pennines mountain range, Huddersfield is the main administrative centre of Kirklees, one of the five boroughs of West Yorkshire. Huddersfield Station is one of the key stops on the Transpennine Express route that traverses the north of England from east to west.

Huddersfield has been a market town since Saxon times (i.e. pre 1066). In the Domesday Book of 1086 it is recorded as Oderesfelt. In 1599 William Ramsden purchased the manor of Huddersfield. Under the Ramsden family it grew into a key industrial town. In the late 18th century Sir John Ramsden built The Cloth Hall as a centre for the cloth industry, and completed the Sir John Ramsden Canal (now Huddersfield Broad Canal).

During The Industrial Revolution, Huddersfield became a significant producer of wool, despite various attacks on local mills by the Luddites. Much of the town's architecture reflects the prosperity of the 19th century, with fine examples of Victorian architecture including Huddersfield Station, Huddersfield Town Hall and Huddersfield Parish Church, although the latter was completed in 1836 so technically William IV.

Huddersfield has two major sporting teams, namely Huddersfield Town Association Football Club and Huddersfield Giants (rugby league). Both share the same stadium, the John Smith's Stadium, formerly known as the Galpharm Stadium, formally known as the Alfred Mcalpine Stadium.
