For years, monsters have existed in folklore. These folklore have been told from generation to generation and have been used to correct bad behavior or promote good behavior in children. Among the folktales told are giant sea-dwelling monsters, many sightings of these monsters have been reported although no photos or videos of them have been captured. So in today’s video we will be exploring 10 of these sea monsters from all over the world.
Let’s begin

Number 10 - Melusine

Melusine is a beautiful woman, but from her waist down, she is a serpent. She is a freshwater mermaid found in streams and springs. Mythology admits that the mythical monster has similarities with Banshee and Undine.
European folklore says that this mermaid was formerly a water fairy that was cursed, and the curse transformed it to a woman-serpent being. She fell in love with Prince Raymond on one of his hunting trips to the forest. It was love at first sight, and Raymond proposed marriage to her immediately.
She agreed to his proposal but with a condition. Melusine asked that her husband would not see her on Saturdays. Although Raymond agreed to her request, he became uncomfortable after several years. One day, he got into her room on Saturday and found her monstrous body in her bathroom. Melusine fled her home that day and never returned. She is known as an angel of death and great destruction. This mermaid is a character in French, Netherlands, and Luxembourg mythologies.
Number 9 - Kraken
The Kraken was a thorn in the flesh of Norwegian and Greenland sailors. The Scandinavian folklore describes this creature as a gigantic cephalopod-like sea monster. It has appeared in many fictional works since the story became popular.
The physical features of this creature are still left in the realm of speculation; however, there are few descriptions we can rely on. One of the most trusted reports of this creature comes from Erik Pontoppidan, a Danish historian. He described it as a beast that is flat, round, and full of arms. This animal is skilled at catching prey that it yanks off its victims and does not give them a second chance at living. After feasting on a fish, it uses the fish to lure more victims. This creature may not be as large as you think, but surely, it is more massive than a regular ship.
The Kraken is tricky such that it appears calm at sea and lurks by to see her prey come forward. Sailors who are wise watch out for salient movements at sea and take flight when there is a sign that this sea creature is watching from a distance. This animal has a dominating figure such that when it gets hold of a ship, it is difficult for anyone to escape its wrath.
Number 8- Scylla
When the name of this creature is mentioned, it sends shivers down the spine of Greek sailors. This creature sent many sailors and crew members to their early graves without a chance to say goodbye to their loved ones.
Greek mythology suggests that Scylla was transformed from an attractive creature to a monster using black magic. Her delicate legs were deformed, and she grew twelve tentacles and six horrific heads. In other words, Scylla transformed into a monster.
After her transformation, she went on exile into the cliff and later took out her rage on men by attacking ships. She is aided by another monster known as Charybdis. Charybdis helps her by yelling so loudly that it drowns Scylla's yelping. When ships hear the Charybdis voice, they try to dodge it, but unfortunately, they fall into Scylla's trap. Each of her head takes down one victim making it six victims on the whole. After she attacked prominent personalities at sea, it angered the gods, and they took it out on her by adding her to the twelve laborers of Heracles. As a result, Heracles was mandated to kill her as part of the assignment Eurystheus gave him.
Number 7 - Lernaean Hydra
Hydra-headed is used to refer to a multifaceted problem or a difficult situation. This term hydra-headed explains what this monster symbolizes. This creature is a gigantic nine-headed water serpent that threatened citizens and visitors to Lerna. Because it was a threat to society, Heracles was sent to destroy it.
In Greek mythology, only heroes are empowered to destroy dangerous and mysterious creatures like the Hydra. Heracles, the legendary Greek hero, was chosen to perform this impossible task. For each of the heads he attempted to chop off, two more heads grew back on the same spot. It was a fierce battle between this monster and Heracles, but the gods were on the side of Heracles.
