She Burned 3 Roman Cities to the Ground — The Woman Who Nearly Drove Rome Out of Britain | Boudicca

The Romans seized her land, flogged her, and assaulted her daughters. It was meant to humiliate and subdue. Instead it united the tribes of Britain behind her and launched the largest uprising against Roman rule in British history. She burned Camulodunum, Londinium, and Verulamium — Colchester, London, and St Albans — to the ground. An estimated 70,000 to 80,000 people were killed. The Roman governor abandoned London rather than face her. The Emperor Nero reportedly considered withdrawing from Britain entirely. She had brought the greatest empire in the world to the edge of retreat. Then the Romans chose their ground carefully — a narrow pass that neutralized her superior numbers. She went anyway. She died shortly after — by illness or by her own hand rather than face capture. She did not surrender. There is a statue of her on Westminster Bridge in London today. Outside Britain almost nobody knows her name. Without Her is a short-form documentary series honoring the women history forgot to tell us about. 🕯️ What would we have done without her? #WithoutHer #Boudicca #BritishHistory #WomensHistory #AncientHistory #CelticHistory #RomanBritain #ForgottenHistory #ConniesRamblings #HistoryShorts #Documentary
