Montana Western theatre program hopes to uphold tradition of Virginia City Players

Over the past several months, NBC Montana reported turnover with local business operators in Virginia City. The Montana Heritage Commission recently canceled contracts and tightened their budget due to embezzlement from their prior director.

As summer approaches, operators who signed new contracts are working to get things up and running for the tourist season.

That includes the longest continuously running summer stock theatre west of the Mississippi. Come June, the Virginia City Players will have a different look after the University of Montana Western’s theatre program took over the lease from the Koch family, who had operated the theatre for decades.
