TIMELINE: Father shoots, kills 7 of his own children during mass shooting in Louisiana

Eight children between the ages of 3 and 14, have been shot and killed at two different homes in Louisiana Sunday morning, according to Shreveport police.

Seven of the eight children killed were the shooter’s own.

The incident was one of the nation's deadliest mass shootings in more than two years, since eight people were killed in a Chicago suburb in January 2024, according to data from The Associated Press and USA Today in partnership with Northeastern University.

The gunman opened fire during a domestic violence attack, shooting ten people total, according to Shreveport police spokesperson Chris Bordelon.

Investigators did not say what may have set off the attack and conditions of those wounded are not known at the moment.f

The suspected gunman was shot by officers after a chase in which the suspect stole a car while fleeing the scene and was followed by police.

Police have not yet released the name of the suspect but said he was an adult male.

A resident living two houses down from where one of the attacks took place, said her security camera captured video of the suspect running away as well as the sound of two shots.
