Thailand hosts amphibious military exercise with US and South Korea
Thailand, South Korea and the United States participated in military drills on Friday (March 1) as part of Cobra Gold, the largest defence exercise in Asia according to a U.S. commander.
The drills featured naval ships, fighter jets, helicopters and an amphibious combat unit, with goals to seize an opposing force’s beachhead.
“The most important thing for this exercise is building the relationships,” said Rear Admiral Christopher D. Stone, commander of U.S. military's Expeditionary Strike Group 7 unit. “If we face a real world event together we know the people and we're ready to respond.”
This year's Cobra Gold exercises, which were launched in 1982, will see over 9,000 troops from 30 countries participate in the drills, according to an official press release.
