Persona 3 FES is an expanded version of the 2006 role-playing game Persona 3, developed by Atlus and the fourth main installment in the Persona series, part of the larger Megami Tensei franchise. It was released for the PlayStation 2 in Japan in 2007 and worldwide in 2008, and was later made available as a downloadable title on the PlayStation Network for PlayStation 3 in North America and Europe in 2012. The game contains an enhanced version of the original Persona 3 (titled The Journey, or Episode Yourself in Japan) with new Personas, additional events, modified Social Links including a new one for Aigis, a new Hard difficulty option, costumes, and quests, alongside a brand-new epilogue titled The Answer (or Episode Aegis), which adds approximately 30 hours of additional gameplay where the player controls Aigis as SEES explores a new dungeon called the Abyss of Time. Persona 3 combines elements of traditional role-playing games and simulation games, following a protagonist who balances daily school life and Social Links with friends while fighting monstrous Shadows during the hidden Dark Hour, exploring the tower Tartarus alongside the SEES group of high school students. The subtitle "Fes" is derived from the word "festival." The game received positive reviews, with the epilogue praised for providing narrative closure to the original story, although it was criticized for removing the daily life and social simulation aspects.
