It's El Mes de la Belleza in La Sirena which is essentially a month-long sale of beauty products within the store La Sirena. Ther are *so* many people that it's almost a bit overwhelming but that isn't surprising - you know how women are with their beauty products, and Dominican women especially take beautification, makeup and beauty products *very* seriously.

Today we're in La Sirena (The Mermaid), one of the many "hypermarket" chains in the Dominican Republic. Much like Wal-Mart these stores are a combination of a grocery store and a department store. For the most part you can get anything that you need here and at a fairly reasonable price.

La Sirena's focus seems to be on having many different locations throughout the city and the country while having a bit less variety and quality goods than Jumbo and Almacenes Unidos (the other two noteworthy Hypermarkets in the country). At one point La Sirena may have been more affordable but currently it seems like La Sirena and Jumbo are more or less tied for pricing, while Almacenes Unidos (rough translation - United Warehouses/Storehouses) definitely caters to a higher tier crowd and sells more upscale goods.
