SCREAM 5 FAKE NEWS | Matthew Lillard returning + all the Crazy Casting Rumors we've heard so far

With Neve Campbell now announcing that she is all but guaranteed to be part of Scream 5, the internet is generating a lot of buzz over the much anticipated sequel, but how much of it is true, and what should you believe? Let's go over all the Scream 5 fake news, and you can decide for yourself.

In the latest bout of Scream 5 rumors, Matthew Lillard has now thrown his hat into the ring to let us know that he is ready, willing, and able to come back to play Stu Macher, half of the original ghostface duo, who was killed off in the first Scream movie. People seem to be blowing this out of proportion, but it is interesting to note that Kevin Williamson's original script for Scream 3 included a plot that saw Stu alive and pulling the strings on a cult of ghostface killers from prison. As farfetched as that sounds, I can still buy it more than Rose McGowan's pitch to return for Scream 5.

But besides the original cast, it seems as though every time Scream 5 Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not) follow someone on Twitter, people lose their marbles and believe that if they followed that one person on Twitter, it must mean that they are going to be in their new movie, and for no other reason, like say, they just really like that person's work, or enjoy their tweets. For instance, Selena Gomez is now believed to be joining the cast of Scream 5, because they just so happened to follow her.

Now, I could be entirely wrong here, and I am willing to eat crow if and when we get an official Scream 5 press release, announcing for absolute certain that the starlet will be coming on board. But until then, I've got my own theory: Matt and Tyler know the Scream fandom is watching them like a hawk, so they've decided to have a little fun, and start trolling us to see all the cockamamie theories we come up with. This will include following anyone and everyone on all social media platforms; Twitter, Instagram, etc. just to throw us of the scent of who the real Scream 5 cast are going to be.

With the initial Scream 5 filming date being pushed back indefinitely, it is possible that this has given producers time to fine tune the casting and script. Still no official word on whether it is being penned by Kevin Williamson or someone else, but we can assume that this movie is still on track for having a 2021 release date, just in time for the franchise's 25th anniversary. In any event, with all the chatter behind Neve Campbell's reveal, we can safely say this will be a sequel and not a reboot, as was previously reported. But as far as casting news goes, the only thing I would say is a safe bet, is that Neve, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette, will all be returning, as was reported back in November when it was rumored that all three were in negotiations to return.
