WaW mod tutorial: adding stock weapons (Type 99, DP28, SVT, Mosin, etc.)
Adding a stock weapon to a stock map! Not that hard, this is for beginners. I made 2 small mistakes during the tutorial which I easily fixed, and I kept them in just to show a bit of the modding process.
Make sure you have:
-Mod tools
-UGX weapon editor
-Notepad++ (or another text editor)
Steps: (Order does not matter much, as long as you do everything)
1) Find weapon files
root, raw, weapons, sp
root, raw, xmodels
2) Add weapon file to mod (I copy/paste and change name for an _upgraded version)
3) Make sure weapon & models are loaded in zone source (CSV)
(Depending on the map, some stock weapons are already loaded in, so you might get away with skipping this step)
Format
xmodel,viewmodel_NAME
xmodel,weapon_NAME
xmodel,viewmodel_NAME_up
xmodel,weapon_NAME_up
weapon,sp/NAME
weapon,sp/NAME_upgraded
Example:
xmodel,weapon_rus_svt40_rifle
xmodel,viewmodel_rus_svt40_rifle
xmodel,weapon_rus_svt40_rifle_up
xmodel,viewmodel_rus_svt40_rifle_up
weapon,sp/svt40
weapon,sp/svt40_upgraded
4) Add weapon (and _upgraded) names to scripts:
_zombiemode.gsc
_mapname.gsc
You can change what VOX dialogue characters say about the weapon here as well as whether it shows up in the mystery box or not
5) Weapon File:
- Balance stats for zombies (for both unupgraded & upgraded). I look at other similar class weapons for inspiration, but try to be unique.
- In sound page, add bowie knife audio lines if on Der Riese for both unupgraded and upgraded version
- In sound page, change the upgraded main weapon firing sounds to a similar upgraded weapon (For the SVT, I used the Gewehr)
- In models page, adjust "_upgraded" weapon to use the "_up" viewmodel and weapon model
- Come up with a funny PaP name for the upgraded version, Treyarch often used l33t speak on certain weapons
6) Create custom PaP camo
Weapon model:
- Replace all normal materials with the flat silver material (usually has _gold in the name, you can find the name of this material in any other weapon, for the SVT I used "mtl_weapon_carbine_gold" from the carbine)
- Leave _wood materials unchanged
Viewmodel:
- Replace most materials with "mtl_silver_etching" to get the main weapon covered
- For magazines and smaller metal pieces, you can also use the material that you used on the Weapon model, it gives the weapon some nice contrast so it's not entirely covered in etching
- Leave _wood materials unchanged
- If your weapon has a lot of materials and random metal pieces, you can even leave some the same as the original weapon (See MG42 in Asset Manager for example)
