Veganism and the Chinese New Year

The 12th of February 2021 marks the start of the Year of the Ox… a year that seems to promise great progress on veganism in China, where there are already 200 million vegans, as well as many flexitarians, and traditional foods such as tofu, seitan and mung beans are ideally suited to a vegan or vegetarian diet. Concerned about the health of its citizens, and particularly in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Chinese government is strongly encouraging the trend towards a more plant-based lifestyle and is creating an economy where producers of meat alternatives can thrive. It is also taking a firm stance on animal welfare, which will make the trend towards veganism even easier.
