3 Harry K. Cody Licks From 1992
Here's the next episode of Three-For-All with 3 Harry K. Cody Licks From 1992.
I have to admit, I was shocked and more than surprised to see the endless (and relentless) requests for Harry Cody over the last 4-5 months. There were dozens of requests for this episode, so without further ado - here you go!
Swedish guitar-extraordinaire Harry Cody is best known for working with the group Shotgun Messiah in the late-1980s and early-1990s, which was originally a group called Kingpin and featured former Easy Action vocalist Zinny J. Zan, but he's also recorded with bass guru Stu Hamm a few times and even recorded a few tracks on an album with the legendary Tom Waits.
This lesson takes a look at a number of slick ideas that appeared in a bootleg concert from Detroit, MI in 1992, which would've been during Shotgun Messiah's 'Second Coming' album/tour.
I briefly mentioned this in this episode, but I've referred to the studio/album version of the licks I've pinpointed in this lesson, which were tuned down a half-step. In the live footage from the concert, it looks/sounds like Harry was actually tuned down a whole-step during the show (or it could've been dragging a little from the analog to digital transfer, which would also affect the pitch), so to make things a little easier to understand and to demonstrate in this lesson, I chose to refer to the original studio recordings to get the licks and tuning in order and simply used the video clips for a visual reference.
Once again - be sure to refer to the studio recordings to understand and hear the correct performance and tuning for these examples.
You'll find some slick phrasing, cool bending, tasty melodic arpeggios, and some spastic shred hiding in this lesson and it's filled with some cool ideas and licks.
