ANTIETAM AQUEDUCT

Built of stone in 1834, the Antietam Aqueduct is one of 11 aqueducts on the C&O canal to carry water and boats across Antietam Creek. During the civil war, one of Robert E. Lee's goals was to destroy this and other aqueducts, rendering the C&O canal useless. They succeeded in partially destroying this one, which was rebuilt after the war.
