Anglophone Identity Is Southern Cameroons: A Historical Reality Beyond Political Labels

The term “Anglophone” is not merely a linguistic classification—it is historically and politically synonymous with Southern Cameroons, also known as Ambazonia. This identity traces back to the former British-administered territory that, in 1961, entered into a union with French Cameroon under contested circumstances. Over time, the distinct cultural, legal, and administrative heritage of Southern Cameroons has been diluted and marginalized, leading to growing resistance against the oversimplified label of “Anglophone,” which fails to capture the depth of the people’s historical and political identity.

In this context, recent political maneuvers such as the proposed appointment of a Vice President cannot be seen as a genuine solution to the longstanding crisis. Such positions risk being symbolic gestures rather than meaningful reforms, especially when they are not rooted in the consent or aspirations of the people of Southern Cameroons. Without addressing the core issues of identity, autonomy, and historical injustice, no political appointment—regardless of title—can truly represent or resolve the demands of a people who continue to assert their right to self-determination. #camerountiktok🇨🇲 #cameroontiktok🇨🇲 #everyone #fypシ
