Police Commissioner speak of Anglophone (Ambazonian) marginalization by Paul Biya and his government
Police Commissioner Léopold Ebéné, a respected figure within Cameroon’s security establishment, has openly acknowledged the systemic marginalization of Ambazonian—particularly those from the embattled Ambazonian regions—by the regime of President Paul Biya. In his statements, Ebéné highlights how the government has consistently suppressed the voices and political agency of English-speaking Cameroonians. He points to the tokenistic appointment of Anglophone figures, such as the Prime Minister, who despite holding a high office, wields little to no real power. Ebéné asserts that this figure is largely ceremonial, with no decision-making authority or portfolio that influences national policy. Such appointments, he says, serve as political window-dressing, intended to project a false image of national unity while the Francophone-dominated regime retains full control.
One of the most striking points raised by Commissioner Ebéné is the control of Ambazonian natural resources, particularly oil. Since Paul Biya assumed power in 1982, all revenues derived from oil extraction in the Ambazonian territories have reportedly been centralized under the presidency, bypassing regional authorities and denying local communities their fair share of economic benefits. Ebéné criticizes this as a form of economic colonization, where resources are exploited without reinvestment in the local infrastructure, education, or healthcare of the producing regions. This decades-long economic disenfranchisement, coupled with political exclusion, he argues, has been a driving force behind the growing calls for independence and the legitimacy of the Ambazonian struggle for self-determination. #paulbiya #dictatorship #cameroun #youtube #localnews #news #television #youtubevideo #tv #youtubevideos #cameroon #ambazonianews #broadcast #youtuber
