‘Plenty of Muslims’ in Australia have a ‘nuanced view’ on Israel-Hamas conflict
Sky News host Rita Panahi says there are “plenty of Muslims” in Australia who have a “nuanced view” on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Ms Panahi’s comments come after Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke backed a decision from his electorate to raise a Palestinian flag until a ceasefire is called.
“Cabinet ministers right now who are very weary of saying anything that will upset segments of their Muslim electorates because they rely on that electorate for votes,” Ms Panahi said.
“They sell that electorate short.
“There are plenty of Muslims in this country who have a nuanced view on this.
“Labor politicians have presumed that no, if we say anything in defence of Israel or if we categorically slam Hamas and the attacks and say Israel has a right to defend itself and to exist, then we’re going to have a backlash from this electorate.”
