Menswear's MAGIC Formula: Cost-per-Wear!

"Cost-per-Wear" refers to the real cost of a product, relative to how often you actually wear it. This formula magically reveals whether an object is a good buy based on the use it will receive in your wardrobe.

Here we have one well-made, quality sport coat that costs $1,000, and one cheap, poorly made sport coat that costs $100.

Applying the Cost-per-Wear ratio to the quality sport coat, we see that its initial price goes down every time we wear it, because with every use we're getting our money's worth.

While the $100 jacket was initially cheaper, it's so low-quality that it isn't worth wearing. Its Cost-per-Wear remains high, because we're not getting much use out of it.

In menswear, items with good Cost-per-Wear can be worn regularly with a variety of outfits, so it pays to invest in them. Some of the best examples are: overcoats, classic menswear jewelry and watches, shoes, leather goods, and versatile neckwear.
