Short-tailed Shearwaters consume twice the weight of krill and fish than the total annual catch of all our fisheries per year. They cycle ten times more energy through the ecosystem than us, fertilise an ocean surface area smaller than Australia that is then spread around the world on ocean currents. We may just have Short-tailed Shearwaters to thank for our healthy fisheries and climate. For Rob, saving an apparently abundant and mundane bird might be offering the world more than you think.
