Tourism Protecting Ecosystems | Diana Körner | TEDxSUMAS
There are increasing numbers of hotels and lodges worldwide that dedicate resources to protect and regenerate nature and support local communities. These Pockets of Hope can have tremendous long-term impacts. Educating guests and locals alike on environmental issues, enabling protection of the surrounding nature, and implementing sustainable practices are just some benefits of eco-tourism. However, currently, they lack attention e.g. of investors and politicians. Therefore, we as guests have a responsibility to re-think how and why we want to travel. Nature is the main attraction in tourism and therefore needs to be protected. By deciding to spend our money where it matters, we will not only have more meaningful travel experiences but can push for change at a larger level! Diana Körner is a sustainable tourism consultant based in the Indian Ocean region, from where she supports small islands, developing destinations and protected areas in sustainable tourism planning, management, training and engagement.
