「The Strange Hills(異国の丘)」

On Aug 9, 1945, The Soviet Union invaded Manchuria after brakin' Soviet-Japanese Neutrality Pact. 'Cause the Soviet Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom made The Yalta Conference. This secret conference opted for treatment of Germany and Japan after WWII, and became an opportunity of cold war.

The Japanese Army was named The Kwantung Army(関東軍) was present in Manchuria surrendered soon, and about five hundred thousand military became the prisoners of the SU. They were taken to various parts of the Soviet Union, such as Siberia, and had forced extremely hard labor. Furthermore, they were also forced the obedience to communism.
They required long time by homecoming and many human lives, about 50 thousand lives were lost in the hardwork and brainwash. These directions were mainly made by then Prime Minister of Soviet Union named Joseph Stalin.

This incident is called the Siberia Yokuryu(シベリア抑留) in Japan, means The Detention in Siberia.

Someday in Siberia, the prisoners became to sing the song. It was written by the prisoners between songwriter and composer. The song expressed the sense of intense homesickness in the strange land.
In 1948, the song was spread all over Japan by the returnee on the radio broadcast of NHK. And this composer became the one of the most famous composer who represents a Japanese popular song called Kayokyoku(歌謡曲) soon. His name was YOSHIDA Tadashi(吉田　正).

A one of his friends was the famous actor. He expressed marvelous in a adult Man's pathos and patience called Giri Ninjyo(義理人情). Exactly, his expression was extolled by MISHIMA Yukio(三島　由紀夫). His name was TSURUTA Koji(鶴田　浩二). The reason of this outstanding expression was possibly his loneliness of childhood and the experience of becoming maintenance crew of the battleplanes. Also he was a soldier. But 'cause he was a student, hadn't gone to a battlefield. So he sang this song.
