India's Space Weapon Upsets NASA & $10,000 Stikeez Stuff-up – Today’s Biggest News

INDIA CREATES HUNDREDS OF PIECES OF SPACE JUNK

NASA's boss is not happy right now.

India's Space Program has used a missile to blow up a satellite and it's left behind a bit of a mess that could be dangerous.

India announced it's developed the technology to shoot down satellites by firing rockets from Earth.

Three other countries already have the tech which basically means they can destroy an enemy's communications or surveillance satellites if they want to.

India tested the tech on one of its own satellites, breaking it into a few hundred bits and NASA's not happy.

It's worried some of that debris could damage the ISS.

Jim Bridenstine from NASA says, "the risk to the International Space Station was increased by 44 percent. The risk and I'm talking about small debris impact to the International Space Station. The risk went up 44 percent over a period of 10 days."

India says the debris will die down soon but fast moving space junk is something many are worried about, especially the potential damage it can cause to our own shuttles.

For now though, space agencies are keeping an eye on the situation to help protect the satellites and the ISS from any future threats.

THIS YEAR'S BUDGET

The Federal Government's released its budget which is basically how they plan to spend the country's money over the next year.

There's gonna be more money spent on roads to improve how safe they are and help people who live in the country get around.

There's also a lot of money being pumped into mental health services for young Aussies, almost half a billion dollars.

And there's been no increase to Newstart funding which is an allowance for people who are looking for work.

But if you happen to be an ant, the budget's got bad news for you, almost 20 million bucks is going into getting rid of you.

It's worth keeping in mind that whether this money will actually get spent on this stuff all depends on whether it even makes it through Parliament and also who wins the next Federal election
