ABC’s Paul Barry ‘misled’ viewers about detainees set free by the High Court

The host of Media Watch, Paul Barry, “misled” viewers on the ABC into thinking injustice was committed against detainees set free by a High Court decision, according to Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton.

Mr Houghton’s remarks come after more than 100 detainees – including hardened criminals – were set free after the High Court ruled indefinite detention to be unlawful.

“The ABC’s Media Watch program, literally titled Demonised Detainees, host Paul Barry defended the criminals,” Mr Houghton said.

“His argument? Well, for all we know, a bunch of the detainees could be really good people.

“In reality, the overwhelming majority of these people are crooks who should be booted out of our country by whatever means possible.”
