Teals a political party ‘pretending to be an independent movement’: Paul Murray

Sky News host Paul Murray says the Teals are a political party “pretending to be an independent movement”, which will be “very bad news” for the Liberal Party.

Simon Homes a Court’s Climate 200 is seeking community-backed candidates to support at next year’s federal election to run in Queensland Liberal-held Seats of Fairfax and McPherson.

Climate 200 did not support any Queensland independents at the last election, which allowed the Greens to win two Liberal and one Labor seat.

They are not likely to run independent candidates in those seats as Climate 200 Executive Director Bryon Fay says he wasn’t ‘aware of any community efforts that are starting there’.

“This is a political party that pretends to be an independent movement; it pretends to be about a whole collection of disaffected Liberals, but it’s really a bunch of Greens, pretending to look like people who one day used to vote Liberal,” Mr Murray said.

“Over the summer … we learn that the Teals are going to make a run on South East Queensland.

“If they’re able to pretend that they are there for a whole bunch of disaffected Liberals, then they’re able to play the run again.

“It will be very bad news for the Liberal Party, but it means the Teal Party – which, of course, it is – could end up in the scenario where they’re not just going to be the tail that wags the dog, they’ll almost be half of the dog in a minority Labor government, which looks like the reality after the next election.”
