Learning Science By Doing Science

Alan Colburn & Laura Henriques are both Professors of Science Education at CSULB as well as recipients of the university's Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award. Colburn is the author of the newly released “Learning Science by Doing Science”, a book devoted to helping K-8 teachers understand how science works, showing them how to help their students do so via classic, time-tested activities.
Henriques is past President of the California Science Teachers Association. She is heavily involved in the state's adoption and transition to the Next Generation Science Standards. She directs the Young Scientist Camp, a Summer Science Camp for children experiencing homelessness, and the Elementary Science Learning Academy, which provides professional learning opportunities for elementary teachers.
