I’ve said it many times on here and it’s a universal truth. Music is a time machine. Within the first few seconds of a song, you can be swept away and dropped exactly into a memory that you had thought was long forgotten. Stay I Missed you by Lisa Loeb is exactly that song for me and many of you watching this.

It takes you right back to 1994, when mainstream music was still good. This was the lead single from the soundtrack of Reality Bites, Ben Stiller’s John Hughsian look at the Grunge era. Stay I missed you is a song with a really amazing story which Lisa told me about in the interview that will follow, In a different world the song could’ve been sung by Daryl Hall, as Lisa Loeb had written it with him in mind as the vocalist. as she heard he was looking for material , but halfway through she found out he wan’t looking for songs anymore.

But it was one inspiration. She set the bar with her song, making history as the first act ever to hit #1 without a record deal. It’s a great story from a gifted writer and interpreter of song. I was one of hundreds of thousand of people who was in love with Lisa Loeb. The song has certainly stood the test of time recently the subject of a hilarious Geico commercial.
