UML Calls Govt-Gen-Z Agreement Illegal as NC Questions Feasibility of Implementation

Nepal’s major political parties have sharply criticized the government’s recent 10-point agreement with the Gen-Z Movement, exposing deep political divisions over electoral reforms and youth-driven activism.

The CPN-UML has labeled the agreement illegal and unconstitutional, while the Nepali Congress has raised concerns about whether the commitments can be implemented—especially with the March 5 elections only months away.

Signed on Wednesday evening, the agreement covers issues such as honoring martyrs and the injured, institutional reforms, recruitment adjustments, anti-corruption mechanisms, and amendments to election laws.

The government says six of the points will be implemented immediately, with reforms aimed at influencing the upcoming House of Representatives election.
