'Deep regret' - EU announces counter-tariffs to US, says it's 'ready to negotiate'

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic expressed 'deep regret' as they unveiled a €26 billion package of retaliatory tariffs in response to the U.S.'s new $28 billion tariffs.

'The countermeasures we take today are strong but proportionate', von der Leyen said outlining the measures. Sefcovic added that the move pushes both countries 'in the wrong direction', but emphasized that the EU remains open to negotiations.
