The Water Queen | Doha Debates
Temperatures are rising. The earth is scorched. Water has become scarce and is only available to the few who can afford it. This is where our story begins.
"The Water Queen" is a fictional superhero origin story that illuminates an all-too-real water crisis. After many desperate attempts to find water for her brother, who is suffering from severe dehydration, young Nobunye taps into her Indigenous roots and is magically transported to a verdant parallel universe where she learns to summon the power of nature and bring water back to her parched world.
Filmmaker Lungelo Mdlalose is also the director of the award-winning web series Thesha. Born in Tanzania to two freedom-fighter parents, Mdlalose is currently based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
