Fill Soil Without Proper Compaction Is the Most Dangerous Foundation Risk

When a site is graded with fill soil, compaction must happen in controlled lifts — typically 6–8 inch layers, compacted to 95% Proctor density before the next layer is added.

Skip the lifts. Pour the slab anyway. The soil settles unevenly over years — and the foundation moves with it. This is one of the most common hidden defects in residential construction.
