Valid vs Invalid Order Block – ICT SMC | Powerful Order Blocks (ICT)

📌 ORDER BLOCK ICT SMC — FULL GUIDE

🔷 What is an Order Block (OB)?

In ICT SMC, an Order Block is the last bearish candle before a bullish move or the last bullish candle before a bearish move, created by Smart Money (institutions) to fill large orders.

It is the origin of:

Market Structure Shift (MSS)

Displacement

Imbalance creation (FVG)

Liquidity sweep

Order Blocks act as:

Demand zones (bullish OB)

Supply zones (bearish OB)

📌 TYPES OF ORDER BLOCKS

🔹 Bullish Order Block

The last down candle before price explosively moves upward.

Indicates demand and institutional buy orders.

🔹 Bearish Order Block

The last up candle before price drops.

Indicates supply and institutional sell orders.

📌 VALID ORDER BLOCK — ICT RULES

A Valid OB must include ALL of these conditions:

1️⃣ Liquidity Grab (Sweep) Before the Move

Smart Money grabs:

equal highs/lows

buy-side or sell-side liquidity

swing high/low

This creates the fuel for the real move.

2️⃣ Market Structure Shift (MSS)

After sweeping liquidity, the market breaks the opposite side of structure with displacement.

Example:

Sweep sell-side liquidity → Break structure to the upside → Valid Bullish OB

Sweep buy-side liquidity → Break structure downward → Valid Bearish OB

3️⃣ Displacement / Strong Imbalance

The push away from the OB must show:

strong candles

imbalance (FVG)

speed + aggression

Shows Smart Money is active.

4️⃣ Return to Rebalance / Mitigation

Price will later return to:

mitigate

fill orders

rebalance inefficiency

This retest gives the entry.

📌 INVALID ORDER BLOCK — ICT RULES

An Order Block becomes invalid if ANY of these happen:

❌ 1. No Liquidity Grab

If the OB forms without sweeping liquidity, it is weak.

❌ 2. No Market Structure Shift

If structure does NOT break in the direction of the OB —
→ OB is invalid.

❌ 3. No Displacement

If the move away is slow or corrective, Smart Money is NOT behind it.

❌ 4. OB is Not Mitigated Properly

If price slices through the OB with:

no reaction

no mitigation
→ invalid OB.

❌ 5. OB Fails After Mitigation

If price returns to OB and then:

breaks the opposite structure

shows aggressive opposite displacement
The OB is invalid.

HOW TO TRADE VALID ORDER BLOCKS (ICT)

Sweep sell-side liquidity

MSS → Break a market high

Bullish displacement

Wait for price to return to bullish OB

Entry on mitigation

Bearish OB Setup

MSS → Break a low

Bearish displacement

Price returns to bearish OB

Entry

Stop-loss above OB

Target liquidity below

✔ Aligned with HTF bias

📌 SIGNS OF A WEAK / FAKE ORDER BLOCK
