Equal Highs & Equal Lows in ICT SMC | Liquidity pool Engineering Liquidity
Equal Highs & Equal Lows in ICT SMC
In ICT Smart Money Concepts (SMC), Equal Highs and Equal Lows are not signals of strength — they are liquidity pools waiting to be taken by smart money (institutions).
Retail traders often mistake them as strong support or resistance zones, but in reality, they are traps.
🧠 Concept Explanation
Equal Highs
When price forms two or more swing highs at the same level, it creates Equal Highs.
Retail traders see this as a double top and start selling from that level.
But in ICT logic — this area above the highs holds Buy-side Liquidity (BSL).
Smart money pushes the price above Equal Highs to grab stop-losses and fill buy orders before reversing or continuing in the real direction.
📍Think:
Equal Highs = Liquidity above = Buy-side liquidity
Equal Lows
When price creates two or more equal lows, it forms a liquidity pool under that level.
Retail traders see this as a strong support and start buying.
But smart money views it as Sell-side Liquidity (SSL) — an area where they can drive price below to collect sell stops and then reverse upward.
📍Think:
Equal Lows = Liquidity below = Sell-side liquidity
⚔️ How to Trade Equal Highs & Lows (ICT Method)
Step 1: Identify Liquidity Zones
Mark Equal Highs (potential BSL) and Equal Lows (potential SSL).
These are targets, not entry zones.
Step 2: Wait for Liquidity Grab
Watch for price to run above Equal Highs or below Equal Lows — this is the liquidity sweep.
Do not enter early; wait for the sweep to complete.
Step 3: Confirm Reversal Structure
After liquidity is taken, wait for a Break of Structure (BOS) in the opposite direction.
This confirms smart money is reversing the move.
Step 4: Look for Entry
After BOS, enter from:
Fair Value Gap (FVG)
Order Block (OB)
Breaker Block
Target the opposite liquidity zone.
🧩 Example:
Price forms Equal Highs at 1.2750.
Market spikes to 1.2760 (liquidity grab) → then drops.
After BOS on lower timeframe → enter short from FVG or OB.
Target Equal Lows below for exit.
⚠️ Warning
Retail traders see double tops/bottoms as reversal zones.
Smart money sees them as liquidity to be raided.
Trade with liquidity — not against it.
