Episode 6 - Painting flowers around the world

Butterfly pea

The Butterfly Pea is a climbing plant whose blue flowers are commonly used as a food dye, particularly among the Peranakans (Straits Chinese). Although it can be found growing in the wild in our region, the butterfly pea is believed to have originated from South America and Asia.

It is believed to have been brought to India in the 17th century; then to Europe, and much later to the tropics.

Among culinary uses, the flowers are commonly used as dyes for coloring confectionaries.

At one point, I questioned myself if I should keep going - the deep violet, yellow and white didn't seem to be going right, and I thought maybe I should start over again? I feel this way quite often, midway painting, with challenging subjects. I'm sooo glad I kept going because I really loved the outcome🔥🙌🏽

Do you like how it turned out?
